Philosophy of Computation

Philosophy of Computation at Berkeley was a student organization based at UC Berkeley, mostly active during 2017-2018. With the tagline "computer science as an end in itself", we offered weekly sessions and a DeCal course called The Poetry of Computer Science, the Computer Science of Poetry, attended by ~30 students.

Miara wrote a textbook and taught the course in Fall 2017 and Spring 2018. Our goal was to offer a more rigorous, ethical, and humanistic alternative to the scourge of effective altruism and rationalism that was entrapping computer science students on campus. We partially succeeded, but almost ten years have passed, and Miara is looking to reboot the project to redeem the Bay Area. Philosophy of Computation at Berkeley (버클리 전산 철학 모임)는 UC버클리를 기반으로 2017년부터 2018년까지 주로 활동했던 학생 단체다. "컴퓨터과학을 수단이 아닌 목적으로"이라는 표어 아래 매주 세미나를 열었으며, <컴퓨터과학의 시, 시의 컴퓨터과학>이라는 DeCal 강의를 운영했다.

미아라는 교재를 집필하고 2017년 가을과 2018년 봄에 강의를 가르쳤다. 목표는 당시 캠퍼스의 컴퓨터과학 학생들을 사로잡고 있던 효율적 이타주의 (effective altruism)과 래셔널리즘 (rationalism) 이라는 재앙에 맞서 더 엄밀하고, 윤리적이며, 인간적인 대안을 제시하는 것이었다. 절반은 성공했으나 어느덧 거의 10년이 흘렀고, Miara는 샌프란시스코 만을 구원하기 위해 이 프로젝트를 리부트하려 한다. 프로젝트에 함께하고 싶다면 miarasung at gmail dot com으로 연락 주세요.
